“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is entering its third weekend in cinemas after the first two weekends yielded a highly impressive $160.4 million global haul.
The success has had a not-unexpected reaction according to THR with various recording artists taking cues from the deal and potentially trying to set up their own concert film releases.
In addition, 72% of respondents in a survey of 6,000 moviegoers by NATO’s Cinema Foundation revealed that they wanted to see more concert films on the big screen.
We’ll be getting that soon enough with the Beyonce concert/music doco film in December. For now, not only are agents and distributors keen on trying to repeat Swift’s success but even studios – having missed out on the film – are reportedly more open to distribution of concert films again.
In the meantime, a big question lingers as to when will the Taylor Swift film come to streaming platforms. SVOD rights are in high demand with every major service trying to enter conversations with Swift’s team.
The trade indicates several have been told negotiations won’t fully begin until after the actor’s strike is over.
