Amazon’s MGM Studios is reportedly developing a sequel to the Sylvester Stallone-led 2022 action feature “Samaritan” with writer Bragi F. Schut returning to to pen the script.
Stallone is reprising his starring role in the film his deal reportedly made prior to the actor’s strike. He’s also returning as producer alongside his Balboa Productions partner Braden Aftergood.
Julius Avery helmed the first film which follows a young boy saved from a beating by a sanitation worker. The kid believes that the worker is a superhero who disappeared twenty years earlier after an epic battle with his nemesis.
Reviews for the film were negative with just a 38% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 45/100 on Metacritic. However, the film was reportedly the No. 1 movie on the service for three consecutive weeks when it launched back in late August last year.
The first film was budgeted at a sizable $100 million, it’s not clear if the sequel will be on par. The project will mark the second original franchise for writer Schut who also penned “Escape Room” and was the original writer of “The Last Voyage of the Demeter”.
More recently Schut worked on the “Dungeons & Dragons” television pilot for eOne and Hasbro.
