Guillermo del Toro has had a bit of a good run with Netflix. Pinocchio was rather good, well, compared to the turd Disney made. His series Cabinet of Curiosities was also very good, making an interesting anthology.
Del Toro’s newest project with Netflix is a movie version of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. It was announced earlier this year that the movie was to star Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield and Mia Goth. That’s not a bad start to the cast.
It’s now been announced that joining the cast will be Christoph Waltz. Again, another great actor who I would be happy to watch reading the phone book. It’s also been revealed who is playing what roles.
On the site What’s On Netflix, it has said that Garfield will be playing Dr Frankenstein and Isaac will be the monster. Goth will be playing ‘the bride’. Del Toro is writing and directing the movie.
The working title is the Prodigal Father. The story is:
Set in Eastern Europe in the 19th Century, the story of Dr. Pretorius, who needs to track down Frankenstein’s monster- who is believed to have died in a fire forty years before–in order to continue the experiments of Dr. Frankenstein.
Sounds interesting, let’s face it, there have been umpteen movies about Frank and the Monster, this sounds like it might be a good take. Del Toro has an interesting style, especially when it comes to Gothic movies set in the olden days.
Filming for the Prodigal Father should start filming in February next year in Ontario and London. There is no date for the release of the movie.
