In a recent interview, action star Jean-Claude Van Damme said the “Fast & Furious” franchise was keen to get him involved, but its star/producer Vin Diesel rejected the idea.
Speaking with The Telegraph about various aspects of his life as part of an hour-long video interview, one part touches upon the roles he missed out on. He tells the outlet:
“They want me in Fast and Furious, but Vin Diesel said, ‘No, I don’t want him.’”
The ongoing franchise has employed various action stars over the years including Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, but has avoided any of the bigger veteran action icons like Stallone, Schwarzenegger and Van Damme.
The ‘Muscles from Brussels’ and “Timecop” star did not not disclose which “Fast & Furious” entry he was potentially being courted for. Van Damme does drop a smile-inducing description of his appeal these days:
“People have been driving Tesla on the screen. Beautiful, perfect CGI. And maybe some people want to go back to the stick shift for a while. Some people. You know what I’m saying as a metaphor? I’m a stick shift.”
Van Damme did appear in a modern Hollywood action franchise, starring as the baddie Jean Vilain in “The Expendables 2”. The character was killed off but Stallone has previously teased he could return as the character’s twin brother Claude Vilain.
Van Damme adds: “Yeah! That’s what Stallone told me. Well, there’s always ‘Expendables 5.’ Or 25”
Universal is set to release the next “Fast & Furious” film in theaters on April 4th 2025.
